About

Japanese is more than grammar.

Every Japanese word carries something with it: a history, a habit, a feeling, or a way of seeing the world.

Late Night Japanese Chat is a place for learners who are curious about those stories. Here, friendly conversations are only the beginning. Through words, kanji, expressions, culture, and everyday life, we explore Japan a little more deeply.

My hope is that you will leave with more than a new vocabulary word. I want you to discover an idea that stays with you—like a page from a good book that you remember after you close it.

日本語のことばと文化を、一緒に楽しみましょう。

Why Late Night Japanese Chat exists

Hello, I’m Haru. I’m Japanese, I live in Japan, and I used to teach Japanese.

The moments I enjoyed most were not always the grammar lessons. They were the moments when one small question opened a door.

Why is this kanji read that way? Where did this expression come from? What does an old proverb tell us about life today?

Those conversations made Japanese feel alive. A word was no longer something to memorize for a test. It became connected to history, culture, relationships, and real life.

I created Late Night Japanese Chat to share that kind of discovery. You do not need to understand every grammar rule before you begin. If you are curious about Japanese and Japan, you are already welcome here.

Read, listen, and notice more

There is no single correct way to use this site.

You can read the English explanation, explore the Japanese words or transcript at your own pace, and then listen to the related podcast or watch the video.

You do not have to study everything. Choose one story that interests you. Read a little. Listen once. Notice one new thing. That is enough for today.

Hello, I’m Haru.

I enjoy traveling around Japan, visiting museums, writing, and investigating the small questions I notice in everyday life.

I am not trying to turn every page into a formal lesson. I would rather share something interesting with you as a friend in Japan might say:

“I noticed this today. Have you ever wondered about it too?”

About Misaki and Nozomi

Misaki and Nozomi, the hosts of many Late Night Japanese Chat conversations, are fictional characters.

I choose the themes, research the background, write and review the scripts, and shape each episode for Japanese learners. In some episodes, you will also hear me speaking in my own voice.

Language and culture can change depending on the region, generation, situation, and person. I try not to present one experience as a rule for everyone, and I correct mistakes when I find them.

Stay curious about Japan.

Late Night Japanese Chat is a place to slow down, look closely at a word, and discover the story around it.

You do not need perfect Japanese to belong here. Bring your curiosity and begin wherever you like.
